I also have a similar problem. I'm working on google docs translating a Chinese document in English. I copy and paste the Chinese text to the google doc and then translate next to it.
I noticed at some point that it didn't underline my misspelled words. I turned off and on the 'view spelling suggestions'. I changed the language from English to some random language and then to English again. Somebody online said that turning on and off the italics would also work. Nothing worked. This is pretty annoying because translating these documents are for my work so having misspellings would be unprofessional. 3/8/2016, 4:41 น.
This doesn't help the matter. It saying that this is a feature. I'm wondering if there's a huge misunderstanding in terms being used. I read this post as saying spelling auto correction is an available feature from the expert, and in following comments from other users. But then also see in the comments that we as the user, have to build the list of auto substitutions from scratch ourselves? Again, this spelling auto correction is in Docs app on ipad, but not online on a laptop. Why the discrepancy?
I am having an issue with spell check. I have gone through and tried all your suggestions. I have random kids in my class when on a Doc spell check will not work.
Majority of others it works for. When doc is shared with me I can't get it to work either.

If I start a new doc with nothing in it spell check works fine. I paste in doc or make a copy of it spell check still will not work. I have tried different browsers, incognito and my IT guy completely disabled all filters on my machine and it still did not work. Cutting and pasting into an email will not work either.
When I paste into a Word doc it works fine. This keeps happening randomly to students and teachers and students are really frustrated with this. Do you have any ideas?? Jo S., 10:38 น.
